My goal as an instructor is to give students an appreciation of biology and help them to develop the skills necessary to think like a scientist. I do this by bringing my research background in evolution, ecology and genetics into course content and assignments. I use case studies from primary sources to teach science-based inquiry as a process-oriented approach to learning. I incorporate multimodal composition assignments that encourage students to utilize alternative platforms to represent scholarly work for non-expert audiences. These projects also encourage students to use their visual, artistic, and technological strengths to interact with course material.
